Sacred Heart Catholic College Holds Opening Session Mass for the 2024/2025 Academic Year
With joy and gratitude, Sacred Heart Catholic College hosted a spiritually uplifting three-day Opening Session Mass from September 17th to 19th, 2024, marking the official start of the 2024/2025 academic session. The school community gathered to reflect, seek blessings, and dedicate the year to God.
Special Guest: Rev. Fr. Alphonsus Uche Okacha
We were honored to have Rev. Fr. Alphonsus Uche Okacha, Dean of the Ijebu-Ode Deanery, lead the three-day spiritual event. Rev. Fr. Okacha presided over the daily Mass and offered inspiring homilies on carefully chosen themes, making each day a memorable experience for students, staff, and the wider community.

Day 1: “Beginning with Faith”
On September 17th, the Mass began with a warm welcome to the new SS1 students and other fresh members of the Sacred Heart family. Fr. Okacha’s homily focused on the theme, “Beginning with Faith”, emphasizing that every new journey, especially in education, should be grounded in faith. The celebration of the Holy Eucharist added spiritual depth, with all present participating in Holy Communion to receive their first spiritual sustenance for the year.
Day 2: “The Role of Service in Leadership”
The second day, September 18th, was dedicated to the staff—teachers, non-teaching staff, and administrators. Rev. Fr. Okacha’s homily for the day was on the theme, “The Role of Service in Leadership,” highlighting how those in positions of influence, especially educators, should lead with humility, service, and a heart aligned with God’s will. This day’s Holy Communion further strengthened the spiritual connection between staff and students, as they were reminded of the noble work ahead in shaping future leaders.
Day 3: “Striving for Excellence with Integrity”
On September 19th, the final day of the Opening Session Mass, Fr. Okacha encouraged everyone, especially the students, to pursue “Excellence with Integrity.” His words resonated deeply as he reminded them that success without integrity is empty, urging all to strive for academic excellence while upholding moral values. The entire school community participated in the Holy Eucharist, culminating in a collective prayer for a successful and blessed academic year.
A New Beginning with God’s Grace
This spiritually enriching three-day Opening Session Mass, featuring thought-provoking themes from Rev. Fr. Alphonsus Uche Okacha and the celebration of Holy Communion each day, has set the tone for the 2024/2025 academic year. With God’s blessings, Sacred Heart Catholic College is prepared to embark on this new chapter with a renewed sense of faith, purpose, and commitment to excellence.
